Victorian Cast Iron Fire Surround
A flamboyant version of the Victorian “Arts” cast iron surround. Made by the same foundry but with more decorative jamb panels depicting the arts; you can find a writers quill, a poets scroll, artists palette and brushes, stone masons hammer, musical instruments including a trumpet, castanets, flute, glockenspiel. The detail and workmanship is incredible.
The frieze is decorated by swallows above wheat sheaf’s and grasses and flanked by panels of passion flowers.
In excellent condition, from a house in Bradford. Circa 1883.
