Description

Early Victorian Antique Marble Fireplaces

A pair of Early Victorian Statuary white marble fireplaces; finely carved frieze shows palmette motifs carved from one block, resting on a pair of recessed panel legs. The eagle top blocks are totally astonishing; a unique pair of hunting eagles perched on a rocky ledge holding its prey, which looks like a duck and snake. The details is so good you could pass a string through the talons and the birds features are clearly visible.

This pair of antique marble fireplaces were removed from a large house in Edinburgh.
The owners Grandfather passed the story down that he saw a man pushing a hand cart with oak paneling on it, when he enquired what he was doing with it “burning it” came the reply. The paneling was promptly re-directed to the house along with this pair of marbles. All believed to be from the American Embassy.

In excellent condition from a house in Edinburgh. Circa 1810. Price is per fireplace – one remaining
